Tapeswitch^® Safety Mats

Tapeswitch is in the unique position of manufacturing safety mats with two different technologies.  The CKP/S1, Armormat and Diamond Plate Mats use Tapeswitch ribbon switch technology, whereas the LMI mat uses parallel steel plate technology.

The CKP/Solo Safety Mats manufactured by Tapeswitch are based on the same principle as the existing range of highly successful Tapeswitch Safety Mats.  However, the major difference between the CKP/Solo and any other safety mat is that the CKP/Solo Safety Mat has a Category 3 fail-safe monitoring function built into the mat thus eliminating the need for an additional control unit.  By providing two volt-free outputs this configuration is ideal for use with AS-Interface systems.

Whichever technology is most suitable for your presence sensing safety application, Tapeswitch electronic safety mats are pressure-sensitive devices which are used to guard the actual floor area around a dangerous area. They can be used to provide primary guarding- where other types of guarding may be inflexible or impractical, such as gaps in conveyor systems.  They can also be used to provide secondary guarding i.e. they can be used in conjunction with an interlocked fence or light curtain to protect the access point to awkwardly-shaped machines.

In essence, a pressure-sensitive safety mat offers increased guarding flexibility as it can be used to detect an operator entering a dangerous area and also to provide presence sensing of operators for as long as they remain inside a dangerous area.

Control Unit Options

All Tapeswitch pressure-sensitive safety mats are supplied with fail-safe wiring as standard. When used with a suitable control unit (not required for CKP/Solo Safety Floor Mat), such as one of our PSSU Control Units, they conform to Category 3 of EN954-1.
