Tapeswitch is a group of five companies. The original office is on Long Island, New York and was established nearly 70 years ago. Tapeswitch Limited in the UK started in 1991 and subsequently three other factories were set up in Germany, Canada and Japan.

The five Tapeswitch companies are all part of a bigger group or Corporation. This is called INDEL, based near Philadelphia USA. Inductotherm is a name you may have heard of as the founding company within our group. The whole corporate group consists of over 80 companies, all engineering technology based and all manufacture their own products.

Tapeswitch UK, based in Chorley, is a 20,000sqft / 60m x 30m manufacturing factory with Sales and Engineering support. This is our main UK and European base. Currently employing on average 20-25 personnel in total with 9 people in our German base. Together we look after Europe and the rest of the world in between our sister companies.

We take our switch technology, a momentary-press-at-any-point-electrical switch contact, and make it into many different products. If you can name a market then we probably/almost definitely supply that market. We really are that wide-spread with such a diverse and innovative product portfolio. Historically involved in industrial-type safety applications we diversified and to this day, after 30 years trading in the UK, we still find new and exciting ways to use our technology. TV, film, sports timing, theme parks, rides and attractions, public transport, medical, the list goes on. We tell you this so that you can have confidence in our experience and wealth of varied applications.

Again, we don’t start off with products; we have a technology in our ribbon-switch (confusing I know, as most refer to this base product as a ‘Tape Switch’, but that’s OK too) that we design and reconfigure as we simply work with you the customer to supply a solution that works for your application and probably beyond expectation.

Traditionally our core technology ends up being one of these finished product groups: RIBBON-SWITCHES, SENSING EDGES, SAFETY MATS. We do have many more ‘product’ ranges such as BUMPERS, PRINTED MATS, LIGHT CURTAINS, CONTROLLERS and more. The key to all this is that we make everything to order! Your application, Your input, Our expertise and Together we get the solution.

So, having said all that, yep, I’d never heard of us either. In fact we aren’t a household name that’s for sure but in industry our reputation is for reliable innovative solutions. Market leader?…. not sure how we measure that seeing as there is no-one quite like Tapeswitch and how we work. We must be doing something right for us to be still here after all this time as we still grow in business, knowledge and our everyday search for new ways to use our switch.
